LADIES’ COMMITTEE MEETS KNITTING COMPLETED IN JULY A meeting of the ladies’ committee of the Paeroa District Patriotic Committee was held in the Coronation Chambers on Monday afternoon, the Mayoress, Mrs Edwin Edwards, presiding. Others present were Mesdames S. Hedge, W. Barclay, W. Wylde, R. A. Mace, R. Callaway, J. Fielding, W. G. Stewart, F. McQuillan, J. H. Bartlett, C. S. James, G. Bennett, A. A. Jenkinson, W. F. F. Faber and the secretary, Mrs E. Hunt. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames R. Buckrell, E. Parry, L. Gibb, J. R. Nelson/ G. Lamb, E. Turton, L. Landman and J. W. Silcock. ,

Mrs W. F. F. Faber was elected a member of the committee on the motion of Mrs Stewart, seconded by Mrs Bartlett.

The Mayoress reported that during the month 86 knitted ai’ticles had been handed in as follows: —30 scarves, 35 balaclavas, 9' pairs mittens, 12 pairs sox; 86 articles. The secretary’s report on the last month’s activities read as under:—

“On July 13, members of the ladies’ committee of the Paeroa District Patriotic Committee served morning tea to the returned men of the first, second and third echelons at the Paeroa Railway Station, some 200-odd being served, 34 of whom were local men, the balance returning to the Bay of Plenty, Hauraki Plains and Thames districts.

* “A welcome-home ball for fhe local returned servicemen was arranged and held in the Regent and Civic Halls on July 19. The supper arrangements for the occasion were in the hands of the Ladies’ Committee to whose energetic and untiring efforts the success of the entertainment was in a large measure due.”
