NATIONAL PARTY
MEETING HELD AT HIKUTAIA ADDRESS BY MR W. A. CLARK A meeting of the Hikutaia branch of the New Zealand National Party was held in the Hikutaia Hall on Thursday night, Mr E. Elliott presiding over a good attendance of members and • Mr W. A. Clark who will be contesting the Thames seat 1 in the interests of the party addressed the meeting and outlined the aims and objects of the party. .He referred to the reason xVhy the party could not work with the Labour Party and pointed out the dissatisfaction which existed among the people to-day as shown by the number of parties and independents which would contest the forthcoming election. Mr Clark referred to the sales tax and reminded listeners of the promises of the Labour Party prior to their gaining power. The present 'Government had described the sales tax as most unjust but Mr Clark pointed out that they had not removed the tax after gaining power but had in fact increased it.
After dealing with other points, rehabilitation, etc., which he said he would enlarge upon when he fully opened his campaign, referring especially to the electricity supply in the North Island, Mr Clark was asked and satisfactorily answered a number of questions.
The meeting closed with the passing of a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker.
