ALL NEW THRILLS

SHERLOCK HOLMES AGAIN “ THE VOICE OF TERROR ” PROGRAMME AT THE REGENT Challenged by the most ruthless criminals in all history, Sherlock Holmes, master sleuth, emerges from peaceful yesterdays to thwart to-day’s master of frightfulness, the enemy saboteur. Sherlock is back with his reliable methods; but in a modern setting, an exciting motion picture that may well inaugurate a. new cycle of timely detective thrillers. The film, .titled “Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror,” will show at the Regent Theatre Tuesday and Wednesday. Based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “His Last Bow,” the screen play by Lynn Riggs matches the indomitable Sherlock against those audacious enemy agents who broadcast the announcement of a special act of sabotage; then proceed with the actual destruction.

Sherlock’s methods of determining clues and bagging the culprits are patterned along the same lines employed in such classic cases as “A Study In Scarlet,” “The Speckled Band,” and other Conan Doyle stories. Set to the rhythm of modern' war drums, the result is amazingly effect- , ive.

Basil Rathbone has the role of Sherlock and starred with him, as Dr. Watson, is Nigel Bruce. A noteworthy cast is enhanced by such names as Evelyn Ankers, Reginald Denny, Thomas Gomez? Montagu Love and Henry Daniell. Rathbone gives his usual notable performance. Rarely has the star been seen to better advantage than as the great sleuth, the shadowy, austere Holmes. The casting of Nigel Bruce as his constantly amazed colleague, was a happy example of good movie judgment. Thomas Gomez, who appears as Meade, the saboteur, is a new screen personality coming to films after many successful seasons on the Broadway stage. Miss Ankers is particularly winsome in a picturesque characterisation. FINALLY TO-NIGHT “WEEK-END IN HAVANA” . “Week-end In Havana,” will show finally to-night at the Regent Theatre.
