PAEROA HARRIERS

MORRISON OUTSTANDING TRIAL RUN ON SATURDAY CHAMPIONSHIP COURSE On Saturday a good muster pf members of the Paeroa Harrier Club assembled at the Paeroa Domain grandstand to take part in a trial run ever the proposed Waikato Crosscountry Championship course. Three packs were formed, a slow colts led by A. Vosper, a fast pack Jed by R. Millar and a racing pack. The muddy appearance of the harriers as they finished suggested that they had to cover swamp land and muddy tracks. Although the course was a very gruelling one the harriers registered some good performances and fast times were recorded. The slow colts went away first and A. Vosper, M. Follas and M. Millar were together most of the way and finished in that order. The fast pack led .by R. Millar set a stiff pace and maintained it throughout the race. A. Currie, who deadheated for first with L. Wheeler in last week’s run, registered a Stirling performance in leading for most of the journey. R. Millar also ran well and is showing improvement with each run. Although G. Vlahovich was tailing the field half-way round the course .he finished very determinedly to be close up in third place. Morrison’s Run-Away The racing pack went away at a very fast pace and the first to show up was T. Morrison who was in great form, next came M. Wallan, followed by Sharp and Vuglar. With one mile covered T. Morrison had put a big break on Sharp who had moved up with M. Wallan and M. Vuglar next.

Half-way around the course Morrison had established a lead of 400 yards on Wallan. Wallan at this stage was moving along nicely and was making a determined effort to draw level with Morrison. With about two miles to the finish Sharp and Vuglar made a very fast move and ran up to Wallan. Over the concluding stages Morrison .finished full of running to win as lie liked in exceptionally fast time. Vuglar finished better than Sharp and Wallan to gain second place.

The outstanding form shown by T. Morrison in Saturday’s run brings him into favour for the Waikato Junior Cross-Country Championship to be held in Paeroa next Saturday.
