WAITAKARURU INSTITUTE INTERESTING LECTURE EXPERIENCES IN MIDDLE . EAST The July meeting of the Waitakaruru Women’s Institute took place on Wednesday, July 14, Mrs T. Pacey presiding over a good attendance of members. The meeting was opened with the institute song and prayer followed by a discussion on the remits to b,e considered at the Dominion Conference this month. During the afternoon Staff-Sgt. Huston of Paeroa attended to give a lecture on his experiences as a member of the 2nd. N.Z.E.F. Sgt. Huston proved a very able and' interesting lecturer and gave an excellent account of his experiences from the time he left New 'Zealand with the Second Echelon until his return shortly after the commencement of the third Libyan campaign. Beginning with an entertaining talk on the trip overseas and the time ■spent by the echelon in England, Sgt. Huston went on to give a more detailed account of the actions in which the New Zealand Division took part

with special reference to the campaigns in Greece and Crete and the work of his artillery battery there. Sgt. Huston also pictured for the meeting the difficulties of campaigning in the desert and a little of the hardships with which the men contended in such a plucky manner. After his lecture Sgt. Huston kindly answered a number of questions. Mrs T. Pacey, on behalf of institute members and Mr Hinton on behalf of the senior scho,ol pupils who were present thanked Sgt. Huston for his excellent address which was greatly appreciated by all. The meeting then closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
