PARCEL APPRECIATED

RECEIVED IN MIDDLE EAST CHANGE AFTER TUNISIA Appreciation of a gift parcel whicn he received while in hospital in the Middle East is expressed by Signalman R. M. Norton, in the following letter to Mr and Mrs R. L. Darley, of Paeroa. Signalman Norton writes as under: “Just a short note of appreciation thanking you for the patriotic parcel I received from you yesterday while in hospital. One of the aspects of my disorder is that the patient is obliged to starve for a few days until he is on the mend. You can, then, readily understand how welcome the parcel of good things, cake, etc., was to me. “While we were up in Tunisia we lived mostly on the proverbial “bully and biscuits” and one of the greatest pleasures back here in base is to get variety in the daily bill of fare. “I have been in Paeroa several times when I was in New Zealand. The races there were always an attraction not to mention the beer. I remember it was a very pretty place with an imposing avenue of trees at the entrance to the town. “I trust that the place is still flourishing and I hope I may some day soon have the pleasure of walking up the main street again. “Thank you very much for remembering the hoys overseas like this and I trust that fortune will duly reward you for your kindness.”
