STOKEN MAURICE W. O’NEIL

SAILOR FROM HAURAKI PLAINS Listed as missing in the naval action casualties, announced recently, Stoker Ist.-Class Maurice W. O’Neil, eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. O’Neil of Pipiroa, Hauraki Plains, was bom in Thames and educated at the Ngatea District High School. He was well and popularly known throughout the district and worked at the Pipiroa store before entering the Army where he served as a sergeant with the Motor Cycle Corps. In 1942, an reaching the age of 21, Stoker O’Neil joined the navy and spent three months on a training ship in New Zealand, before going on active service.
