TO RACE AT PAEROA
THAMES JOCKEY CLUB PROGRAMME APPROVED NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-NIGHT The New Zealand Racing Conference having approved of the date and change of venue from Thames to Paeroa, the Thames Jockey Club has now' issued its programme for the meeting. In this year’s programme the Thames Steeplechase has been eliminated and replaced by the Maramarua Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase. Last year this race opened the programme but this year the first race will be the Trial Plate, of six furlongs, for horses three-years-old and upwards that have not won an advertised flat race at a totalisator meeting at the time of starting. This should be very popular among horse-owners and may lead to so many entries that it will require provision for the race to be run in divisions. The two jumping events, the Hikutaia Hurdles and the steeplechase referred to above, should fill well. The principal event of the afternoon is the President’s Handicap, of li miles, for three-year-olds and upwards and this should attract a large field. Nominations close on July 2< and weights on July 28. The usual condition prevails in regard to all handicap events that the winner of any race may be rehandicapped, such rehandicap to be declared not later than 72 hours after the advertised starting time of the race won. The handicapper is Mr H. Tronson and the judge Mr H. Dent.
