‘TO THE SHORES OF TRIPOLI’ - PROGRAMME AT REGENT • JI ADVENTURE, ROMANCE, THRILLS The smashing story of the U.S. Marine Corps and what it takes to turn out a fighting has been brilliantly brought to the screen in 20th.. Century-Fox’s Technicolour epic, “To The Shores of Tripoli,** which will show at the Regent Theatre on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. The Darryl F. Zanuck production is made to order for every patriotic American, and is a credit to those men who fought their way to glorious posterity at Wake Island. 4 There is nothing more heroically traditional than the spirit of the Marines/ and “To the Shores of Tripoli,” shows us what makes, them that way.' Most of the action takes place at the San Diego Marine Base, and it is there that John Payne, a raw-. recruit, is turned into a first-class fighting man by ’Sergeant Randolph Scott. For the romantic interest, , which no Marine would be without, Maureen O’Hara has been placed in the role of a lovely Navy nurse. Naturally, John succumbs to her charms and Irish temper. A know-it-all attitude on his part threatens to keep him away from becoming a true “devil-dog,” but when the finale comes, > John is up in front as % true son of ; the Marine forces. - The acting by Payne, Miss O’Hara and Scott leaves nothing to be desired andxthe rest of the cast which i»elt»des such top performers as Nancy Kelly, William Tracy, Maxie Rosenbloom, Henry Morgan, Edmund MacDonald, Russell Hicks and Minor is first-rate, ! Special Credit should be given to Director Bruce Humberstone, who has given the picture a true fueling of the spirit of the Marine ‘Corps. A fastmoving screen play by Lamar Trotti .adds immeasurably to the film’s excellence. '
