MATCHES FOR SATURDAY INTERESTING FOOTBALL FREYBERG’S VETERANS TO PLAY When the Paeroa Rugby Union’s junior representative team meet Freyberg’s Veterans on the Paeroa Domain on Saturday, football of a particularly interesting nature should be seen. With such players as Jack Godwin, Bob Kilgour, Bert McDonald, I. Neil, supported by members of the Paeroa Veteran Club, the Paeroa juniors who this year as yet have not had their colours lowered will be hard put to maintain their unbeaten record. Footballers who have just returned from the Middle East on leave had no sooner arrived in the town before they were seeking out members of the union to enquire what chance there was o± a game on Saturday, being eager to again don football togs to enjoy the sport on their own home ground. An appeal for year for these > men is made any any person prepared to lend same is request to bring same along to the Domain on Saturday. MATCHES AT WAIHI WINS FOR HIGH SCHOOL On Wednesday the Paeroa District High School rugby and basketball teams travelled to Waihi to play matches with the Waihi District High School. Both the Paeroa basketball teams were successful, the scores being:— Paeroa A 27 beat Waihi A 2; Paeroa B .14, beat Waihi B 6. After a very open game the Paeroa rugby team defeated Waihi by 1-2 points to nine. Scorers for Paeroa ‘were Pennell, Turoa, Barraclough and Masters while Bonnici scored twice for Waihi and Thomas once.
