ATTRACTIVE WEDDING

COWEN—SHALLUE BRIDE IN IVORY SATIN GOWN Another attractive wedding was celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, Te Aroha, on Saturday, June 19, when Mary (Maisie) Shallue, third daughter of Mr and Mrs J. J. Shallue, of Mangaiti, was married to Verdun Paill Cowen, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs 0. C. Cowen, of Auckland. The Rev. Dean Murphy officiated, while Nuptial Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Dougherty. Mrs T. Mulvihill presided at the organ and Miss P. Murphy rendered “Ave Maria.” The bride entered the church on the arm of her father, wearing her blue Child of Mary cloak over a classical slim-fitting gown of ivory satin. Her long train was edged with tulle pleating which formed circles, centred with orange blossom and heather. Her beautifully embroidered veil was caught at the head with a spray of water-lilies, and was worn over the face on entering the church. The bride was vice-president of the Sodality and many members formed a guard of honour, each holding blue and white streamers. Mrs Patricia Sharkey, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. Her gown was of sky-blue lace complete with cor-; onet of blue orchids and a bouquet of blue and pink chrysanthemums and anemones. Sergeant D. F. Sharkey was best man. The reception was later held at the home of the bride’s parents where 75 guests, including all relatives of the bride ’ arid bridegroom l , were ‘ entertained. Mrs J. J. Shallue received her guests in a black model frock and fur cape. She carried a spray of cyclamen. When the bride left on her honeymoon she travelled in a frock of model beige wool crepe'de chine, brown fur coat and hat with matching accessories.
