CAPTAIN PETER GILCHRIST MEMBER OF TE AROHA FIRM A cablegram has been received byMr Peter Gilchrist, Snr., of Ruakaka, Te Aroha, from his son, Captain Peter Gilchrist, wherein it is mentioned that the latter is very fit and has just received immediate award of a Military Cross. Captain Peter Gilchrist was born in Te Aroha and received his education at the local school and at King’s College, Auckland. He is a junior member of the firm of Gilchrist, Sons and Burns, and is a barrister and solicitor. He served his apprentice-

ship as a solicitor with Mr Tudhope of Hamilton, and later with the firm of Earl Kent Massey and Northcroft in Auckland. Having been in the Hamilton Battery he joined the Army as artillery gunner in December, 1939, and was later sent to the Army Training School at Trenthanu He was promoted Sub-Lieutenant and left for Egypt with the Third Echelon. He went through the campaign in Greece and was mentioned in despatches. He was not in Crete but was returned airect to Egypt, and since then has been up and down the African desert in the course of the varying fortunes of the Eighth Army. He became Lieutenant in 1941 and Captain last year.
