OBITUARY
MRS CATHERINE MULLINS EARLY COROMANDEL RESIDENT A large circle of friend's will regret to hear of the death of Mrs Catherine Mullins, who passed away at the Thames Hospital early Tuesday morning, after being an inmate for nearly ten years, aged 83. Mrs Mullins was born in Ireland on July 8, 1960, and came to New Zealand 60 years ago. After residing for some time at Helensville, she went to •Coromandel and, with her husband, was for many years “Mine Rest” of the Ballarat Hotel, where her generosity and personal kindness became a household word throughout the Thames and Coromandel goldfield. She came to Thames 21 years ago, and her many years of illness was borne with Christian fortitude. She is survived by four married daughters and one son. The daughters are Mesdames Macdonald (St. Heliers Bay), Faddy (Auckland), Hiskins (Taumarunui), and Harvey (Thames), and the son is Mi- John Joseph Mullins (Thames). Her husband and one daughter, Jean, predeceased her many years ago. Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. St. Francis’ Church at 7 a.m. to-day, the funeral leaving at 2.30 p.m. for Totara Cemetery.
MR LIONEL MACKENZIE OLD COROMANDEL RESIDENT The death occurred .on Sunday of Mr Lionel Mackenzie, aged 66, a wellknown journalist. In addition to his newspaper work, Mr Mackenzie was secretary of the King Country Rugby Union, of the Taumarunui branch of the National Party, and of the Hunua Rabbit Board. His father, Mr Francis Mackenzie, established the first newspaper in North Auckland, the Northern Luminary, 65 years ago, and subsequently owned other newspapers in Whangarei, Coromandel and Helensville.
