PAEROA TENNIS CLUB DANCE AND EUCHRE HELD VERY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION (From the Hauraki Plains 'Gazette of June 21, 1923.) It must be very gratifying to the members and committee of the Paeroa Tennis Club for the success, from every viewpoint, of the dance and euchre tournament held in the Central Theatre on Thursday last. Despite the unpropitious weather there was’ a large and representative attendance from all parts of the district. About eighty couples took the floor, and the gathering went with a swing from start to finish. A special feature of the evening was the dance music,, which was supplied by a local orchestra comprising Mrs F. S. Budd (piano), Miss B. Jones and Mr C. Mills (violins). Extras were supplied by Mrs McLean, and Misses Nicholls, Taylor and Houlihan. A progressive euchre tournament was held for the hon-dancers, and attracted about 30 players. The winners in the ladies’ section were Miss C. Taylor first, Mrs Alps second, and Mrs Kapley third. The men’s first prize was won by L. Crann, with L. R. 'Hodges a close second, the third prize falling to L. Wright. Mr R. B. Penlington excelled in his duties as master’ of ceremonies, being most attentive. The dainty supper was provided 'by the club’s lady members, and a band of willing helpers, and needles sto say, nothing better could be desired. Mi’ C. Wells and those who assisted him, are to be heartily congratulated on the efficient organisation and success of the evening. It is very pleasing to record the success they met with.
