FALSE INCOME
TAXATION AND FARMERS MR SUTHERLAND’S OPINION That to-day the farmer was being taxed on a false income and should be allowed to create a fund to overtake back maintenance after the war was the opinion expressed by Mr A. S. Sutherland, M.P., when speak-
ing in the House of Representatives last week. Mr Sutherland said:— “I would like to make a comment on the remarks made by the Leader of the Opposition on the taxing o± farmers on a false basis of income. The farmers are short of many essential commodities, including labour, and the result is that the cleaning of drains, the care of buildings, and general farm maintenance have had to lapse. “I consider that the farmers should • e allowed to create a fund to be ■.ised after the war to overtake back maintenance, and I hope that the Minister of Finance will give that matter consideration”
