PETROL STOLEN
TANK DRAINED IN TE AROHA INCIDENT IN MAIN STREET Almost sufficient for an international incident was the mean trick played on a visiting American who spent a week-end in Te Aroha recently, states the Te Aroha News. Leaving his car parked outside the Hot Springs Hotel where he was staying on Saturday night, he found it to be drained of petrol on Sunday morning. As the Marine had to be back at his post that day the position looked serious and an approach was made to the Mayor. After some inquiries had been made regarding procedure the American lodged a complaint with the police, who gave him a note to the local fuel controller. It is understood that he was later able to proceed back to his post. Meanwhile the person who “swiped” his petrol is “wanted.”
