ROAD RACE IN AUCKLAND ■PAEROA TEAM COMPETES VETERAN A. B. BROWN WINS Last Saturday the Paeroa Harrier Club sent a team of harriers to compete in the Great Eastern Road Race in Auckland. The team comprising M. Vuglar, F. Sharp, T. Morrison, J. Fowler and M. Wallan ran exceptionally well and are to be congratulated on the excellent performance they registered. Although this was their first openharrier race and handicapped by inexperience and a strange course the runners showed that with conditions to suit they would be equal to the best in Auckland. J. Fowler was the most outstanding Paeroa harrier and registered an excellent performance to finish as far up as twenty-fifth in a field of neaily 100 runners. From the gun the large field went away to a good start. After about IS miles had been covered the first Paeroa harrier to show up was M. Vuglar who was running along nicely in tenth place followed by J. Fowler about 150yds. behind with F. Sharp next about 100 yards back. M. Wallan .and T. Morrison were well back in the field. After another mile had been covered T. Morrison, who seemed to be feeling his way up to no, began a fast forward move and ne passed runner after runner until at the 4-mile mark he was up in fortyninth place. M. Wallan over the last IS miles finished very fast and passed about 15 runners in the run to tne judge.

Morrison! Youngest Runner The youngest runner in the race was T. Morrison and his finishing forty-ninth in* the large field showed that he is definitely a class harrier and in a few years’ time will undoubtedly be right up to provincial championship class. Although the team failed to secure a trophy the experience gained by the trip will be of great benefit to the members in other open races later in the season. After the race the promoting body the Ellerslie Harrier Club provided afternoon tea, after which the trophies were presented to the winners. During the course of a speech at the presentation the Mayor of Ellerslie. Mr H. J. White, extended his congratulations to Frank Sharp and the members of the Paeroa team on their coming up for the race and on their excellent performances and wished the Paeroa Harrier Club and members a very successful season. He said he hoped to see them competing in the race for many years to come. Placings On The Day The results were as follow: — -A. B. Brown (Lynndale), 32.45, 1; F. N. Orange (University), 33.5, 2; A.
