WORK IN DRAINS
GRADING OF BOTTOMS HAURAKI UNITED AREA FOREMAN’S REPORT TO BOARD Improvements to drains which included removal of slips, grading of batters, shovelling, etc., were reported on by the foreman, Mr W. Johnson, to Thursday’s meeting of the Hauraki United Drainage Board. “Piako roadside drain, north side “Piako roadsid drain, north side from Hill’s corner boundary bend in drain to Kerepeehi-Kopuarahi road has been cleaned on wages to Tread-way-Rogers boundary. “Te Kauri No. 2 drain has had the bottom graded up under pines east side of Hauraki road. This work was done on wages. « “Madgwick-Bakers’ drain has had the bottom graded up under pines on wages. “The Meat Company outlet drain has been fenced and the outlet widened and deepened. Small Slips Removed “Ngatea roadside drain north side has been shovelled up on wages from just round bend above floodgate just past Mr Schultz’s top bridge also the drain along Mr Cleave’s boundary under his pines has been shovelled. Three small slips have also been removed out of the drain. “Ngatea roadside drain south side has been graded on wages for about 63 chains from floodgate to Mr Schultz’s sharemilker’s garage bridge. The top hinges on the floodgate were seized which are now freed and put in working order again. This gate will never be a success until the short hinges on the top which the long hinges connect onto are lengthened. I spoke to Mr Fox about this and he told me to arrange and have the gate attended to.
“Willow Extension drain from Miller-Hamilton drain to within a couple of chains of Loader-Greenway drain has been cleaned on wages. Outlet Graded “Monganui’s outlet drain east side of Netherton road, 14 chains of which has been graded on wages. “Taipari drain from KopuarahiKerepeehi road eastward to large pines on south side has been graded up on wages. “Half of the Miller outlet from fluming to bend in drain has been graded up. I hope to have this job completed some time this week. “The Kerepeehi-Kopuarahi roadside drain from Lime works has been Cleaned and passed for payment. “Mules’ outlet drain has been cleaned from floodgate to Hauraki road on wages. In A Bad State “Jubilee drain has been graded up from Hauraki road to top side of Apario road ready to continue on to Hicks-Williams boundary. “While at Monganui drain removing timber and clay from pipes I walked along the bottom of Monganui drain for a good many chains westward. This, drain is getting in a bad state through the crumbling under the pines from the banks. “Piako roadside drain north side from Kerepeehi-Kopuarahi road to Boundary has now been cleaned on wages. “I am now working on the Te Kauri No. 1 from Hauraki road to Hamilton road with the men cleaning up the bottom.”
