PLUNKET SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING HELD OFFICERS FOR PAEROA GOOD FINANCIAL POSITION On Monday last the annual meeting of the Paeroa Sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket Rooms, there being a fair attendance. Mrs R. .S. Carden presided. The annual report disclosed that the affairs of the Paeroa sub-branch are in a very satisfactory position. The treasurer, Mrs C. N. O’Neill, presented her balance sheet, revealing that an excellent credit of £36 was in hand. Nurse Thompson’s annual report stated that there was a slight increase in room visits and that there had been no serious illness during the year. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs R. S. Carden; vice-presidents, Mesdames W. Marshall, H. Hare, Weadon, E. Fathers, D. Prime; secretary, Mrs G. A. Gamble; treasurer, Mrs C. N. O’Neill; committee, Mesdames E. Edwards, C. A. Blackwood, R. L. Darley', R. S. Nicol, G. Bain, G. Stewart, F. Clark, P. Leigh, J. McAnally, E. Hunt, A. W. Alley, Ray Clark, B. Buchanan and Miss Moore. It was decided to hold a street stall to raise funds for the society and it was left in the secretary’s hands to contact those in authority for permission to hold a stall somewhere about the middle of February of next year. President’s Report The president’s report read as under :— “I am pleased to present a favourable report of the progress made by this sub-branch of the society during the year ending March 31, 1943'. Four meetings have been held during the year with a good attendance of members. “In view of' the strong financial position of the sub-branch at the commencement of the financial year and the -pressing demands on the public to support Patriotic appeals, it was decided not to make a public appeal this year. Work of Younger Members
“After' paying annual contribution to the nurse’s salary and usual outgoings, we have finished up with cash and assets to a total value of £46 3s 10d. This has been made possible by the great interest and excellent efforts of the younger members for the most part. They have shown a greater interest in the affairs of the society than has been the case since the formation of this sub-branch. This is a healthy state of affairs which is to be commended. Our membership stands at about 100. “To suit the convenience of the Te Aroha branch the nurse’s visiting day was changed from Thursday to Friday. “In January and February a supply of oranges was made available for the babies. It is to be regretted that this service could not have been extended for a longer period, “The committee thanks Mrs E. P. Fathers and also Mrs P. O’Neill for their generosity in providing lunches for the nurse. Also to the nurse for her kindly interest. May I add my personal thanks to the committee for their continued help and co-opera-tion." The annual report of the nurse,
Miss I. Thompson, read as under: — “New Cases. —Breast fed 31, complemental 7, artificially fed 22; total 60. “Horae Visits. —48. “Room Visits.—Adults 1469, babes 13J52, children 99; total 2920. '“There is a slight increase in the room visits. The birth rate in Pae-, roa is evidently lower this year. There has been no serious illness this year. “I wish to thank Mesdames Fathers and P. O’Neill for lunches, also the committee for their help at all times.”
