ANZACS FROM THE 8.8. C. SIGNATURES OF LOCAL MEN DOCUMENT FROM LONDON A document of interest to relatives and friends of all Thames Valley men in services who have been or are in England has been received by the Hauraki Plains Gazette from the British Broadcasting Corporation, London. The document is in the form of a photograph of a card signed by servicemen and women from New Zealand who took part in 1942 in the weekly 8.8. C. programme “New Zealand Magazine,” which is directed to members of the New Zealand forces serving in the Middle East. They sent messages home in the programme “Anzacs Calling Home” in the B.B.C’s Pacific service.
The card measures approximately 6in. by Bin. and has a surrounding border with the words “New Zealand Magazine to the Middle East—Anzacs Calling Home — London Calling — 8.8. C. 1942,” and there are approximately 500 signatures on it which can be easily read with a magnifying glass. Most of the servicemen have stated the part of New Zealand they come from, but a few have signed only their names and ranks.
Thames Valley signatures on the sheet are as follows:—Flying-Officer C. R. Kidd, R.N.Z.A.F., Paeroa; PilotOfficer A. C. Boulton, R.N.Z.A.F., Paeroa; H. L. Green, R.N.Z.A.F., Turua; N. McMillan, R.N.Z.A.F., Thames.
The card is available for inspection by*readers.
