SALUTE THE JEEP
CARRIES FILM UNIT ACTIVITIES IN WAR In the last war they gave pride of place to the mules, but in this it is the Jeep which gets a salute. In New Guinea, according to a war correspondent, they have one that wins equally well on water as it does on jungle tracks, but even the standard model has been flown hundreds of miles in this area because it is a handy size for packing as freight in a troop-carrier aircraft.
The latest development is the conversion -of a standard Jeep into a mobile movie unit, which can be stowed aboard as freight-plane and taken to our troops in the most remote stations on the island.
This little Jeep carries a standard 35mm. projector with its own motor generator and public address system, and full-sized screen frame.
It has a waterproof film trunk, which is detachable for airborne 'shipment, and the projector table is carried on the bonnet.
In tests it performed excellency with a film of uncertain vintage, which had been seen by some of the troops three years ago in the Middle East.
