ARTIFICIAL TEETH
FITTED TO PEDIGREE COW
CURIOSITY .SEEN IN RUSSIA
A cow with artificial teeth of stainless steel was one of the curiosities seen by Mr J. Roberts, of the Christchurch Trades Hall, during his toux’ of Russia. When he first herd of this cow at an agricultural show, Mr Roberts told members of .the Christchurch Businessmen’s Club at a recent luncheon, he thought it was a joke. Personally, he saw little sense in giving such an animal artificial teeth, but he was told that in the case of a pedigree cow it was worth while.
Lepers at MaJrogai “Once a leper becomes• despondent, that is the end of him,” said Mr P. J. Twomey, secretary of the Lepers’ Trust Board, at the annual meeting of the Board at Christchurch. Lepers must be kept happy and occupied, he said. In 18 months, 100 patients were discharged as cured, from the Makogai leper station, and this was made p issible only by the help from New Zealand. The prestige of New Zealand was very high among the medical staff and patients at Makogai, said Mr Twomey, •who visited the island recently.
