LOCAL BREEDER’S PURCHASES
WILL BENEFIT THE VALLEY
■ At the dispersal sale of the famous O.K. Jersey stud held at Takanini recently when 436 head of pedigree Jerseys sold for an average of 51 guineas, members of the Thames Valley Jersey Breeders’ Club were final bidders on 10 lots.
Mr B. E. Veale, of Tirohia, secured O.K. Palantine Percy, a direct son of the renowned Lobelia Palantine Sultan, who realised 1000 gns. at the sale. The dam of Percy was O.K. Royal Perfection, C.O.R. 5941b5. fat and.she was purchased by Mrs K. N. Jones, Golden Valley, who also secured a half-sister in O.K. Perfect Royal. Mr Chas. Townshend secured one of the great breeding matrons of the herd in O.K. Pink Rose, 6951b5. fat at four years and in-calf to Sultan, also a promising yearling heifer O.K. Royal Sunny.
Mr A. Lowry, junr., of Hikutaia, ; secured four lots. His first purchase j was O.K. Kewpie’s Heather, whose three nearest dams average 7001bs. fat. Next came 'O.K. Sunspot SweetPea, 7611b5. fat C.O.R. and a gold medal winner, followed by O.K. ' Heather Caroline, untested four--1 year-old, and O.K. Royal Sunbeam, I a rising two-year-old. ! Mr O’Lauchlin, of Matatoki, secured O.K. Palantine Gem, a direct three-year-old daughter of Sultan. With the two others sons of Sultan already in the herds of Messrs Gray and Gray, Matatoki, and Mr W. Richmond, of Netherton, the influence of the O.K. blood should have a marked effect on the Thames Valley Jerseys in the future.
