CAPSIZE OF A BUGGY KARANGAHAKE ACCIDENT FIRE NEAR RAILWAY STATION (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of June 4, 1903) Our Karangahake correspondent writes: “While coming in from Waikino from the football match on Saturday evening three men—W\ McLean, H. Cartwright and E. Rochfort —were capsized out of a buggy. The horse ran up a bit of a bank, and upset the buggy and occupants. McLean somehow got under the buggy, but was got out without injury. Rochfort got a severe cut on the head and severed an artery. He was brought to Mr Crease’s pharmacy and attended to and is progressing favourably. A fire broke out in a. house near the railway station this morning about half-past one. Hearing the cry of fire, Mr Penk gave the alarm by ringing the fire-bell, which quickly brought ■the brigade out, and the fire was soon submerged. Very little damage was, however, done, owing to the fact that the occupier, Mr Robins, worked hard and kept the flames from spreading. Fortunately there was no wind, otherwise the house must have been destroyed. The cause of the fire, we learn, was through a defective chimney.
