NOTICE OF MOTION
NO SUPPORT FROM COUNCIL
SPECIAL MEETING URGED
“That the annual statement of accounts, the statement of assets and liabilities, annual estimates and all balance sheets pertaining to council administration such as quarry, ferry, etc., be grouped, and presented to a special meeting of the council seven days following the receipt of same from tne clerk,” was a notice of motion moved at Wednesday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council by Mr J. W. Neate.. Mr Neate explained that the clerk submitted full and comprehensive reports and statements of accounts but due to lack of time at ordinary meetings there was no opportunity to discuss them when the clerk could explain any matter which they did not understand. It would give councillors a better understanding of the affairs of the council.
Mr J. F. Mayn seconded the motion pro forma, pointing out that as the council did not have a special finance committee it might be as well to hold a special meeting. Mr D. G. McMillan said that perhaps if the statement of accounts was forwarded to councillors before the meeting they could study same and then ask any question they wanted to at the next meeting of the council. The chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt, said the motion moved by Mr Neate was not workable. If any councillor thought there was not time to discuss any special report at an ordinary meeting it was quite in order for him to move that a special meeting be held and then a time and date suitable to all councillors could be arranged so that a full meeting of the council could be held, as Mr Neate moved, it would be probable only a few would be free to attend a meeting called seven days after the clerk completed the report on accounts. The motion was lost on the voices.
