AFTERNOON AT TURUA

CHURCH BRING-AND-BUY LADIES’ GUILD FUNCTION The Turua Church of England Ladies’ Guild held a bring and buy afternoon on Tuesday in conjunction with their monthly meeting. Mrs H. Hicks presided over a good attendance of members and friends. . Mrs Day, who is leaving Turua, was presented with a pretty salad set by Mrs Hicks in appreciation of past services. Mrs Day, replying, thanked the members for their kindness and good wishes and said all she had done to help had been a great pleasure. She also hoped to carry on in the district to which she is going. Competitions were won by Mrs H. Mules, Mrs C. Robertson and Rev. R. K. Dobson. There was a great variety of goods displayed and sold. Afternoon tea was served ending a pleasant afternoon.

ENGAGEMENT jones—McElwain The engagement is announced between Wallace George, eldest son of Mr ands Mrs W. Jones, of Ngatea, Hauraki Plains, and Vera Zelma, elder daughter of Mrs McElwain, of Auckland. HUGHES—CARR Mr and Mr? E. E. Carr, of Upper Hutt, announce the engagement of their youngest daughter, Ngaire June, to Corporal Gavin Raymond Hughes, Fiji Forces, elder son of Mr and M s G. Hughes, Ngatea.
