GUTTED BY FIRE

MUSSEL BOAT RUINED

INCIDENT AT COROMANDEL

ORIGIN OF BLAZE UNKNOWN

During the early hours of Tuesday morning, May I'B, the mussel boat Waiheke, owned by Mr A. Dunn, was destroyed by fire at the Coromandel wharf.

Mr Dunn and his crew tied up at the wharf at 1 a.m. with a load of mussels for the mussel factory at Coromandel. They disposed of their cargo and went to bed. At 3 a.m. they were aroused and told that their boat was on fire.

The Coromandel Fire Brigade extinguished the fire, but the inside of the boat was gutted beyond repair. The deck and deck-house were burnt and a great hole had been burnt in the side of the boat.
