PAEROA LADY GOLFERS DRAINAGE BOARD FORMED MEETING AT PARRY’S CORNER (From the Hauraki Plains Gazette of May 21, 1923) The Canadian foursome playedby members of the Paeroa Ladies’ Golf Club was won by Mrs Miller and Mrs Andrews with a net score of 85. Other results were: Mrs Silcock and Mrs Edwards 93, Mrs Peacock and Miss Poland 103, Mrs Bain and Miss Taylor 98. Next Saturday’s match will be 18 holes, bogey handicap, for Miss Thorp’s trophy At a representative meeting of the settlers held at Parry’s Corner, near Ngatea, on Monday morning, it was unanimously decided, after hearing the scheme discussed, that a drainage board should be formed with a view to amalgamating with the Hauraki Drainage Board to control the area between the two rivers. Messrs W. McDuff and J. McKercher were appointed to represent the settlers and work in conjunction with the delegates appointed at other centres in furthering the matter. 'The settlers on Orchard East road have decided that it is imperative that better drainage facilities should be provided as soon as possible and that they approach the Lands Drainage Board Engineer and get final estimates of the cost of the work —widening and deepening the Willow and Te Kauri drains and of the cost of a proposed drain behind Taylor’s, Blacklaw’s, Shilton’s, Greenway’s, and other sections, so as to be in a position to ask the Hauraki Plains County Council to raise a loan so that the work could be put in hand at once.
