GOOD PERFORMANCE
STOPBANK ALONG FORESHORE 246 CHAINS NOW COMPLETED At the recent meeting of the Hauraki West Drainage Board the drainage engineer reported on the excellent work done by the excavator on the stopbank along the foreshore. The engineer wrote to the meeting' as under: — • • “The work was commenced in November, 1941, and by March 31, 1943, 246 chains of stopbank had been completed for an expenditure of £2594. • “The estimated cost of 246 chains of bank was £2460 and the expenditure has exceeded the estimate by £134. The reason for this is the fact that a much larger bank is being constructed than the estimate provided for. “The reconstruction bank was to have a 20ft, base and loose earth, volume of 250 cubic yards per chain. The bank actually constructed has a 30ft. base and loose earth volume of 350 cubic yards per chain. “This shows a remarkable good performance on the part of the excavator crew.”
