LADY GALWAY GUILD

COROMANDEL MEETING OFFICERS FOR YEAR ELECTED The Coromandel Lady Galway Guild held its annual meeting in Mr Rowse’s rooms on Thursday, May 13, 1943. Miss Mitchell presided over a good attendance. The activities for the past year were discussed and the secretary intimated that 151 articles of clothing and 24 quilts were sent overseas for 1942. Since the inception of the ■Coromandel branch 1879 articles of clothing have been sent forward. During the year Mrs Herman Denize presented the guild with a spinning wheel and members had been learning to spin, one pair of sea-boot stockings have ben spun and knitted and forwarded to the Navy League. A resolution was passed thanking all those people who gave so generously in many different ways thus, allowing the guild to carry on with its -work and thus helping to make it the success that it was.

The election of officers resulted as follows: —Miss N. Mitchell was reelected chairwoman and Mrs RMurphy was 're-elected secretary. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded these two ladies for their work during the past year. It was decided to form a working committee of all those ladies attending the meeting. The following were appointed: Mesdames W. C. Denize, V. Jones, Herman Denize, M. King, F. Denize, D. A. Inglis, E. Deeble, M. Evans, M. Carlsori, Alec McNeil, C. H. McKenzie and x Miss Russell. Following the annual meeting the committee held an ordinary meeting. It was decided to make a drive for clothing, both old and new. It was hoped that people would co-operate and give any discarded clothing, no matter how old, thus enabling the guild to carry on its good work. It was also decided to start activities at once and should there be anyone else interested in this work they were cordially invited to attend the sewing -bees held at the -patriotic shop. A hearty vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
