AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION CREDIT BALANCE OF £59 FIRST AID CERTIFICATES A meeting of the committee of the Paeroa Branch of the >St. John Ambulance Association was held in the Ambulance Rooms, Paeroa, on May 3, when Mr W. R North/president, presided over Mesdames E. Edwards, E. Turton, Miss R. Dickson, His Worship the Mayor, Mr E. Edwards and Messrs W. Smith, B. Gwilliam, W. Barclay, S. Wheeler, treasurer and the secretary, H. E. Bradley. The results of the Paeroa male first aid examination held on March 8 were received and Mr North remarked on the good results of same and thanked the instructors for their efforts. He specially pointed out that the majority of the candidates were men belonging to the E.P.S. Section. ‘ A pleasing feature of the examination was the success attained, by- members of the Maori race, three of Whom gained their first aid certificates,” remarked Mr North. It is to be hoped that the keen interest displayed in this interesting and most useful work will be an incentive to other members of the Maori community to take up first aid instruction. It is the aesire of the president and members of the association that their interest be maintained and fostered. Mr E. Edwards endorsed the remarks of the president and also thanked the instructors on behalf of the Central E.P.S. Committee.

The resignation of the secretary, Mr H. E. Bradley, was accepted as he had bebn called for service with the Air Force, and it was resolved to appoint Mr S. Wheeler to act as secretary in conjunction with the position of treasurer.

The treasurer presented a statement of the financial position of the association which revealed a credit balance of £59 Is 6d with no accounts outstanding.

It was agreed to endorse the action of the executive committee in paying for the balance of timber required to complete the new rooms at the Ambulance Hall, it being pointed out that the labour in building these rooms was entirely voluntary. Members expressed appreciation of this and remarked on the excellent work accomplished. The following were presented by Mr North with their first-aid certificates: —R. H. Greenslade, C. W. Henwood, J. L. Jones, K. Keaney, A. W. Pearson, W. T. Nicholls, Riha Kau Hou, Hoani Te Moananui, R. I. Wells, I-I. Weed'.

In addition to the above the following ambulance cadets were successful in passing the male preliminary first-aid examination . and will receive. their certificates at an early date:—Desmond' Martin, Robert Jessen, Allan Pearson, Peter Oldham, Maurice O’Neill, Ross Wells, Keith Bowen, Victor Bowen, Alex Currie, Patrick Chamberlain, Rees Gallagher, Ruka Kere and Francis Skynner.
