FRIENDS GATHER
FAREWELL AT HIKUTAIA MR AND MRS A. TREMBATH PRESENTATION FROM DISTRICT There was a very large and representative gathering present last week at the home of Mr and Mrs A. Duncan of Hikutaia when residents of iHikutaia and surrounding district tendered a farewell to Mr and Mrs A. Trembath and Miss Helen Tremjiath who have resided in the district for the past 36 years and are well known and highly respected citizens. For some years past they have resided in the Maratoto Valley and their future home will be in Thames. Mr dnd Mrs Trembath have a family of six, three daughters and three sons, two of whom are at present serving overseas with the Armed Forces. , A very jolly time was spent by ,all in dancing, cards and music. After a plenteous supper had been served Mr M. A. Ellis, addressed the gathering and said how pleased he was to have the honour of performing such a ceremony. Pioneer Farmers When he had arrived in Hikutaia, 30-odd years ago, said Mr Ellis, he had met these good people, already well established citizens and had known them both intimately ever since, through all their early struggles when with stout hearts they had attacked tough, unbroken country and turned it into a fine farm which they were now able to hand on to the younger generation and enjoy their well-earned and deserved rest.
During all that time, said Mr Ellis, they had always worked hard and lived and worked happify together.
Now that the time had arrived to say au revoir he knew that all their friends and neighbours would keenly regret their going, but would be seeing them quite often in the future as Thames was not so far away.
He concluded by wishing them everything of the best for the future and hoped they'had many happy years ahead of them. Parting Gifts On behalf of their many friends he then asked them each to accept a parting gift To Mr Trembath he presented a handsome smoker’s stand, to Mrs Trembath a beautiful chromium sailing ship and to Miss Helen Trembath a knitting bag. Mr Trembath replied on behalf of himself and family, saying how much they appreciated the kind words that Mr Ellis had used to bid them farewell; in all the 36 years they had lived in Maratoto Valley they had always known and agreed with all their neighbours and he wished to take this opportunity of expressing his deep Appreciation of their many good qualities. , He also wished to thank .everyboay for their fine presents and, their host and hostess, Mr and Mrs A. Duncan, who had been their closest neighbours. He knew they would never find better ones. He then proposed a toast to Mr and Mrs Duncan. Friends Who Were Present Mr R. W.
