POPULAR PIPIROA BOY

FAREWELL DANCE HELD TPR- JACK FOOTE HONOURED If there was any doubt as to the popularity of Trooper Jack Foote it was dispelled last week on the occasion of his farewell, every family in the district being in attendance to honour Jack. Miss Pat Johnston, the popular pianist, played the dance music.

Mr Fred Wallis, chairman of the farewell committee, in a few words, wished Jack all the best in the task which lay ahead of him and then introduced iMr C. W. Parfitt who made the presentation on behalf of the Pipiroa residents. Mr Parfitt said the people were gathered that evening to farewell one of the most popular boys on the Hauraki Plains and knowing Jack and the pioneer stock from which he came, he was sure Jack would do all that was asked of him with distinction. On behalf of his many friends Mr Parfitt asked Jack to accept a cheque and expressed the sincere wish of all present that Jack would return safe and sound in the very near future. Jack was cheered to the echo when he rose to reply. He sincerely thanked all for their kindness to him.

Trooper Foote was accorded musical honours.

The evening closed with the singing of <‘Auld Lang Syne” in the early hours of the morning.
