KEREPEEHI CONCERT

AN ENJOYABLE EVENING

PATRIOTIC FUNDS AIDED A Sunday night concert in aid of the Kerepeehi Soldiers’ Parcel Fund was held at the Kerepeehi Hall on April 11. A varied programme was arranged by the Kerepeehi Band Boys assisted by other local talent. Mr Wallace Booth presided. There was a good attendance and all appeared to enjoy the entertainment. The amount netted was surprisingly satisfactory, being by collection at the door.

The concert opened with the playing of the National Anthem by the band boys, followed by the “Star Spangled Banner” played as a baritone solo and the Russian national anthem as a cornet solo. The “Maori Battalion march was then played by the band, afterwards being sung heartily by the audience as a tribute to our Maori comrades overseas.

A song was sweetly rendered by Patty Innis. An orchestral item played by Mrs Vivian (piano), Miss Margaret Cartright (violin), Mr Colin Harvey (banjo mandolin) and Mr Don Vivian (trombone), brought forth some favourable comment. Hymns By The Band Two songs were sung by Master Billy Kearns in a very creditable manner. Mr Kearns also sang with pleasing effect. The accompanists for the evening were Mrs Kearns, Mrs P. Innis, Mrs, Vivian and Miss June Hayes. . Humorous recitations were given by Mr L. Vivian and Master Maxton Vivian,

The band comprising of Messrs Hugh Fawcett, Dan Vivian, Colin Harvey, L. Vivian and Brian Benny brought the programme to a close with the playing of several hymn tunes which were greatly enjoyed. Bandsmen Neil Reddy and D. ,Powley were absent through sickness. This is the second concert that these boys have given in aid of patriotic funds, the other being at Ngatea a short time ago. Miss Paul of Ngatea and her band of lady helpers deserve much credit for the success on that occasion and for the reception given the concert

party. The residents of Kerepeehi are greatly indebted to Mr and Mrs Vivian who were the chief organisers or the two concerts. !
