PAEROA PUBLIC LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP GROWING 300 BOOKS ALREADY REPAIRED An increase of 36 adults and three juniors for, the quarter ended March 31, bringing the total number of subscribers up to 928 was reported by the librarian of the Paeroa Public Library to Thursday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council. The report added: — “Twenty-eight hooks have been added to the shelves plus six for the junior section kindly donated by Master Peter Callaway to whom thanks are due.

“Members of the sub-committee spend one evening per week repairing and reconditioning books, some 300 books being dealt with to date. There is still a considerable number of books requiring attention and the work is being proceeded with. Special thanks are due to Miss Murray for her assistance in this work.

“As instructed, I have cancelled the Sphere and replaced it with the observer, Auckland Weekly and the Free Lance. These are now in the Reading Room and are apparently much appreciated by subscribers.” The Library Committee in their report to the meeting recommended that a letter of thanks be sent to Master Peter Callaway for his donation of books to the library.

“Your committee viewed, the good work being done by the librarian, Mrs H t Buckrell and of the members of the committee in repairing and reconditioning books and the council s thanks are due to the librarian, Mrs Leigh, Mr and Mrs E. Hunt and Mr R. P. Callaway for the fine work accomplished. The committee has been assisted by Miss Murray and special thanks are due to her,” added the Library Committee’s report. The acting-town clerk, Mi’ A. A. Jenkinson was instructed to convey the council’s thanks to Miss Murray.
