THREE BREAKS

PLAINS WATER SUPPLY REPORT BY SUPERVISOR SUPPLY OFF FOR TWO DAYS In his monthly report to the .Hauraki Plains County Council, Mr J. Bradford, the water supervisor, reported as follows: —

“East Water Supply: Three -breakages were repaired, two on the small mains had to be lifted, the other in a drain crossing on the 9in. took two days to repair. Two half-pipes laid in the bottom- of the drain with a rubber joint in the centre were taken out and replaced with an Bft. length, this making- the bottom in one piece. Part of the suppAy was shut off for two days. During the dry spell a double line of Sin. galvanised pipeshad to be laid up Canoe Creety, Puriri, to a level with the pressure tank. The water in the main creek was not sufficient to keep the pipes full during peak periods. While Canoe Creek was linked in quite a bit of trouble took place over the supply through the angle cocks on the mains blocking, this being caused by rust and foliage coming down and jamming in these taps.

“West Water Supply: Two service connections were replaced in Ngatea township, both having to be pushed across the sealed road. Other minor repair work was done over both supplies.

Crs. <D. G. McMillan and W. H. Cheale asked if the supervisor could state the reason for the breakages.

The- supervisor replied that they may have occurred through there be-

ing two short lengths instead of one long length. , After some discussion it was decided on the motion of Crs J. F. Mayn. 1 and McMillan, to make a claim, on the contractors for the cost of repairs,. The suggestion of the water supervisor that the installation of steel pipes be gone on with, providing permission was given by the drainage board, was agreed to.
