WHARF IN DANGER
UNDERMINED BY TIDE WAITAKARURU COMPLAINT NEED FOR SEVERAL NEW PILES The need for carrying out repairs to the Waitakaruru wharf because undermining was creating a danger was referred to Wednesday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council by the convenor of the New Zealand Co-
operative Dairy Company’s Waitakaruru Cheese Factory Committee, Mr A. H. McClean. Mr McClean wrote as under: — , “You will recollect that in company with Mr Barber and yourself the writer inspected the Waitakaruru wharf and the need for added piles to support same was urgent then. The owner of the O.V. “Wairuru,” Mr Paterson, pointed out to me recently that it is getting dangerous and will eventually collapse due to the undermining, especially in front of the cheese shed.
“Mr Paterson is prepared to co-op-erate with the county engineer by placing his winch as his disposal for driving some piles. If the requisite instructions could be passed to the engineer to consult with Mr Paterson, something might possibly be arranged between them to get the job done. “Thanking you in anticipation of something being done in the near future to make the wharf secure.” It was agreed that the engineer, Mr J. iC. Clark and Mr F. Pinchess, investigate and take whatever action is necessary.
