SWIMMING CLUB

SEASON’S SPORT IN PAEROA

KEENNESS OF CHILDREN

REVIEW OF YEAR’S ACTIVITIES

“In presenting the annual report the committee wishes to thank all members and supporters who have co-operated so willingly to make the past season such a successful one. Owing to existing conditions, senior competitions were not held this year, but the committee’s objective in helping and encouraging intermediate and junior events, has been attained m providing keen and healthy sport amongst the children of Paeroa,” states the annual report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Paeroa Amateur Swimming Club to be held in the Parish Hall on Thursday night. The report continues: — “The membership of the club is now 14 senior members and 58 intermediate and junibr members. ‘ Several of our senior members are at present either overseas or in camp in New Zealand. We take this opportunity of wishing them a safe and speedy return.

“The balance sheet which will be presented separately shows . that the club’s finances are in good order. Club Competitions

“ During the season weekly club nights have been held and, although on some nights the number of competitors has been small in some events, competition in both intermediate and junior grades has been very keen. A points competition, on similar lines to that conducted last year, again proved popular, the races being keenly contested and the winners of the aggregate are to be congratulated. Club championships were held towards the close of the season and the committee extends its congratulations to the various winners.

“The club staged two open carnivals which were visited by Morrinsville. Hamilton, Y.M.C.A. and Matamata clubs. Our club members were successful in several events, which shows that the standard of our swimmers is on a par with that of other affiliated clubs in the South Auckland Centre. Local members attended the open carnival held by the Morrinsville Club and were well represented in the finals and secured several places. Other clubs could not be visited owing to lack of transport. “The Paeroa Borough Council has again been of great assistance to the club and any matter pertaining to club activities iri which the borough council has been able to assist has been willingly and promptly given. The club is very grateful to the council for all its help and will at all times endeavour to stimulate the sport of swimming in this district in an endeavour‘to repay in a small way the help given the club. “In conclusion the committee wishes to thank all who have given assistance on club nights and at carnivals. We also wish to thank the general public for their attendance and donations which have resulted in the continued activity of the club with benefit to the young people of the town and district.”
