PARADE HELD
MARCH DOWN MAIN STREET ♦ ORDER OF THE CEREMONY TRIBUTE PAID IN FLOWERS The parade, under the command of Major J. H. Bartlett, formed up at the Post Office and led by returned servicemen and followed by the Municipal Band, Home Guardsmen • and cadets, marched down Normanby road, through' Arney street back to the Regent Theatre via Princess street, the official party consisting of the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, Messrs H. M. Shand, J. Walmsley, C. C. Webb, A. A. Jenkinson, T. A. Bar- , rett, Major G. B. Murray, Rev. J. R. Nelson, Major T. R. Moore (Salvation Army) and Mr T. B. Jamieson, taking ! the salute as the parade passed the Municipal Chambers. The service opened with the singing of the National Anthem led by i the Paeroa Municipal Band, after
which wreaths were placed on the stage by members of the official party and the organisations represented in the parade followed by tributes from the school children and the general public. These wreaths were conveyed to the Cenotaph after the service. Address By Mr Jamieson A hymn, “O God Our Help In Ages Past,” was sung, followed by a prayer offered by the Rev. J. R. Nelson, and a scripture lesson read by Major. T. R. Moore, of the Paeroa Salvation Army. A short address was given by Mr T. H. Jamieson, which was followed by the hymn, “O Valiant eHarts.” The “Last Post” was sounded by the bandmaster, Mr E. Beilby, followed by one minute’s silence and the “Reveille.” The official party then retired from the theatre followed by the parade which was dismissed by Colonel Bartlett in the Post Office square.
