Visit of Plunket Nurse As next Friday is Good Friday -the Plunket Nurse will not be in attendance at the Plunket Rooms, Paeroa, on that day, but will visit Paeroa on Wednesday, April 21, instead. Harriers In Paeroa
All interested in the formation of a Harriers’ Club in Paeroa are invited to attend a meeting to be held in the Coronation Chambers (Ohinemuri County Council office), on Monday night, April 19, at 7.30.
Due to Dry Weather That the finalising of the reconstruction of Hubbard’s road had been delayed on account of the very dry condition was reported by . the engineer, Mr L. E. Shaw to Wednesday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council.
Work On Croquet Greens That the paspalum had been removed from the two croquet greens on the Paeroa Domain, the holes filled in, and new grass sown where required was reported by the Works Committee to Thursday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council.
Notes Used By Army Samples of the paper money issued by the British Military Authority in North Africa have been received in Paeroa by Mrs G. Dent from her son L/Cpl. W. J. Dent. The notes received in Paeroa were valued at Is and 2s 6d and L/Cpl. Dent stated that the money ranged from Is to £l. Borough Council Meets The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council was held on Thursday night, the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards., presiding. Others present were Messrs W. Smith, D. G. McMillan, J. Walmsley, F. Sparks, B. Gwilliam Snr., C. C. Webb, H. M. Shand and the acting-town clerk. Mr A. A. Jenkinson. Leave of absence was granted Mr E. S. Moore/
Trees Need Topping A request that the gum trees, planted in that part of Lewis street which runs up Primrose Hill, be topped, was made by Miss E. E. Rickard, of Nahum street, Paeroa, to Thursday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council. Miss Rickard pointed out that the trees had made that side of her house very dirty. It was decided to asked the Paeroa District High School Committee to top the trees which are being used by the school.
Should Help Themselves More “People should be able to face up to these little problems themselves,” remarked the chairman, Mr W. Marshall, at the monthly meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council on Wednesday, when a settler asked the council to clear eight chains of drain on his property. Members had discussed liability at length, and in answer to a question the engineer, Mr L. E. Shaw, had stated that the cost would be about 6s a chain, a total of £2 'Bs. “We have wasted nearly £2 10s worth of time already,” said the chairman. > It was decided to reply that the council could not accept liability for the work.
