BREAD CONTROL ORDER EFFECTIVE NEXT MONTH ONLY THREE SHAPES BAKED Bread will be sold in standard shapes in Paeroa from May 3, when the Breadmaking Industry Control Order, 1943, comes into operation.

These shapes are raised pan, sandwich, and split loaves, states advice received by Paeroa bakers. Bread may not he baked in othei’ than these three shapes, unless the .Minister’ of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, approves of a substitution for the split loaf. Every loaf must weigh not less than 21b., except split loaves which shall weigh not less than lib. 12oz. The specifications cover white, brown, wholemeal, 100 per cent, whole meal, wheat germ and special bread. Special Bread

Applications to the Bread Approvals Committee in Wellington must be made by bakers if they wish to sell special bread. This may not be represented as being approved for any medicinal or dietetic purpose without the approval of the Director-General of Health. Sellers of bread must place a large placard in a prominent position displaying the classes, shapes and weights of the loaves offered for sale. The control order is subject to review for one year during which time comments are invited. These will be considered with a view to determining any amendments before the specifications are issued as a regular New Zealand standard.
