STOCK IN GARDENS
TROUBLE IN PAEROA SEQUEL HEARD IN COURT IDENTIFICATION SCHEME The sequel to the trouble caused residents of Normanby road, Paeroa, by straying stock some weeks ago was heard in the Paeroa Court on Monday when Tangitere Wikiriwhi was fined 10s with costs 15s, solicitor’s fee 10s 6d on a charge of allowing stock to wander in the public street. Mr C. N. O’Neill appeared for the Paeroa Borough Council who prosecuted. C. C. Clune stated that his garden had been damaged by stock and he determined to find out who owned- the animals responsible and on the night of February 26 he sat up until he heard the stock in his property and then marked one of the animals with paint. Next day in company with a constable he identified the stock which belonged to Tangiterei Wikiriwhi.
Clune stated that both his neighbour’s and his gardens had been ruined. On one occasion he had chased the stock from 2 a.m. till 4 a.m. in an endeavour to drive them into the pound. The Magistrate agreed that it was very annoying when cows broke into a garden but''the point arose did the stock break through a proper stockproof fence.
