COROGLEN WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
ANNUAL MEETING HELD
There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Coroglen Women’s Institute held on March 17, the president Mrs Hare and the secretary, Mrs Hamilton, both being reelected. C. Jorgensen was elected treasurer.
The annual report disclosed that during the year £1 had been donated to the Soldiers’ Parcel Fund and 10s to the Makogai Leper Fund. Patriotic knitting had amounted to 13, pairs of sox, 13 scarves, 14 pairs mittens and eight balaclavas while for the Merchant Navy two pairs of gloves, one pair of sox and one pullover had been knitted. To assist the R.S.A. members had sold some 30 poppies. The winner of the flower competition for the year was Mrs Hare. The ordinary monthly meeting of the institute was then held. The roll-calk “My favourite verse or quotation,” had a good response. A presentation of an institute spoon was made to Baby Ann Minifie. It was decided to. hold a flower show in November. Mrs Hare was the winner of the competition, “Famous Nicknames.” The president, secretary and treasurer were each presented with a lovely bouquet by Miss K. Hodge. A bring-and-buy stall raised £1 Is 4d. . ,
The flower competition resulted as follows:—Mrs J. C.. Minifie -Snr., 1; Mrs Hare and Mrs J. C. Minifie Jnr., dead heat, 2. The National Anthem brought the meeting to a close.
