GARDEN PARTY AT AWAITI SOLDIERS’ PARCEL FUND AIDED Competitions are always popular and many of the people who attended the garden fete held at the home of Mr and Mrs J. S. Crosbie, Awaiti. entered wholeheartedly into the varied games. The function, organised by the Netherton W.W.S.A., to raise money for the Soldiers’ Parcels Fund for the Netherton district, was an outstanding success, both socially and financially. Beautiful weather showed to advantage the gay flower beds, shrubs and well-pruned lawns and hedges. Mrs J. A. Reid briefly outlined the purpose of the function and welcomed the large and representative gathering present.
A bring and buy stall was well laden and those in charge did brisk business.
Games played were clock golf and croquet, w r hile one or two novelty competitions were held and caused great hilarity. Many entered enthusiastically into a treasure hunt. During the afternoon a delicious afternoon tea was dispensed and at the conclusion of the fete Mrs Reid took the opportunity to thank one and all for then* attendance and assistance. Thanks were also accorded Mr and Mrs Crosbie for their generosity in making their home and grounds available for the function. The excellent sum of £24 15s was raised to help the Parcels Fund.
