FINED £5
CLAIMED WAS DETECTIVE INCIDENT IN PAEROA WAIHI MAN INCONVENIENCED A Te Puke farmer, Arthur William Kingsley Park, who inpersonated a detective while in Paeroa last Saturday and instructed a well-known resident of Waihi to visit him there for crossexamination, was fined £5 in the Paeroa Court this morning by Messrs P. Williams and B. Gwilliam Snr., J’s.P. The charge against Park was that while not being a member of the New Zealand Police Force he did assume the designation of “Detective from Headquarters.” Park pleaded guilty.
Constable J. L. Brown stated that Park came to Paeroa on Saturday and phoned a resident of Waihi ordering him to come to Paeroa to sc? him. Defendant then made arrangements for a private room in Paeroa and met the Waihi resident at the Paeroa Post Office and then adjourned to the private room.
Park then accused the Waihi resident with a very serious offence. Accused admitted that he acted as though he was a member of the Police Force.
Constable Brown added that it was regarded as a very serious offence. Park now realised that he had been very foolish. Accused when asked, if he had anything to say stated that he had only had a good motive in his action. He had merely endeavoured to ensure that the Waihi person would not act again as he alleged he had in the past. A person very near to him had 'been affected.
Mr Williams in entering a conviction and a fine of £5 advised occused in future to take only legal steps and not to take it on himself.
