THE Hauraki Plains Gazette. With which Is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto: Public Service. MONDAY. WEDNESDAY. & FRIDAY. MONDAY, DECEMBER 23, 1929. THE CHRISTMAS SEASON.

At this season of the year the holiday spirit takes hold of the whole community. Possibly we are so reminded in our homes of the school holiday, the breaking-up ceremonies and presentations that it becomes well inculcated into our minds ; and then, again, we have the Christmas and New Year greetings that all more or less speak of holiday time. The modest day at the seaside or quiet secluded spot is preferred by some ; others rush for excitement in the city, while others crave for a motor tour. Given seasonable weather, the greatest charm is to live out-of-doors amid the real and enduring beauties of our wonderful country, whether it be the bush, land, or coast. It is at this holiday time that Christmas is with us once more—a Christmas to some full of joy, while to others it has sad memories. Strange as it may-appear, it is this time of the year that counts so much, our minds reflecting the happenings of the past 12 months. Each one has his own separate task, his griefs and joys, and each one his own Cross to bear. The thoughts of a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year will always remain with us as a nation, and here in New Zealand, abounding with prosperity, it should be a Merry Christmas, as the material things that make for our prosperity are in the main in a healthy condition.

A Merry Christinas and Happy and Prosperous New Year is extended to all our readers.
