NETHERTON DRAINAGE

MEETING OF BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Netherton Drainage Board was held on Friday evening, Mr F. T. V . Johnson presiding over Messrs B. Halligan, G. Death, E. J. E. Townshend, and the clerk, Mr J. E. Green. Terrace Drain. The clerk reported having been in communication with the lands drainage engineer in respect of the Terrace drain. Much running sand had been encountered, and fall had been lost at several points. This would be taken up in February, after the sand had dried out. The flood-gates should not be put in until the drains were completed in February. Land Drainage Act The Department of Internal Affairs forwarded two copies of the Land Drainage and River Protection Bill for the board’s information and comment. Power Pumping Charges. The Elstow Drainage Board wrote in respect to the cost of electricity for pumps for dewatering land, and suggested that a delegate be appointed to a deputation which would wait on the Thames Valley Power Board. Mr G. Buchanan was> appointed. Election of Trustees. The Department of Internal Affairs forwarded a Gazette notice concerning the appointment of Messrs Death and Townsend as trustees for the “H” Drain area. Accounts. Accounts totalling £lO were passed for payment. Outstanding Rates. Instructions were given the clerk to sue for all 1928-29 rates outstanding on January 21, 1930. The amount involved was £B5 19s 4d. WWihana Drain. Mr Townsend reported having inspected the Wirihana East outlet and having interviewed all the settlers interested in it. Some desired it improved and others desired a new outlet. It was decided to defer the decision until the next meeting, when the floodgate at the sand dump may be completed. Care of Flood-gates. Mr Death urged the appointment of men to take care of those floodgates which were not already being tended. He undertook to interview certain settlers.
