RIFLE SHOOTING.
PAEROA DEFENCE CLUB. CLUB COMPETITIONS. On the local rifle range on Saturday last the members of the Paeroa Defence Rifle Club continued the club competitions a further stage by firing a competition at 300yds and 600yds. The conditions for shooting were good and some good scores resulted. Rfm. R. I. Roberts headed the list with a score off the rifle of 62, with Cadet A. Simmonds second. The scores were as follows :— Rfm R. I. Roberts, 31 at 300yds, 31 at 600yds, handicap 5, total 67 ; Cadet A. Simmonds, 28, 33, 3—64 ; Rfm. H. A. Morrison, 26, 32, 5—63 ; Rfm. L. Morris, 32, 26, 5—63 ; Capt. H. Simmonds, 32, 30, scr.—62 ; Rfm. E. Turton, 24, 29, 7—60 ; Rfm. P. R. Hubbard, 30, 26, 4—60 ; Rfm. D. Currie, 24, 25, 10—59 ; Rfm. A. A. Jenkinson, 25, 29, 4—58 ; Dep.-Pres. R. Wells, 28, 25, 3—56 ; Rfm. R. W. Roberts, 22, 25, 8—55. Visitors.—H. J. Verrall (Auckland), 29, 33—62 ; H. W. Verrall (Auckland), 31, 28—59. To-morrow’s Shoot. Foi* to-morrow the committee has, arranged to have a service shoot at 200yds and 300yds, commencing at 2 p.m. The match will consist of 5 shots application at 200yds, and 5 shots at five plates in 25 seconds, and at 300yds, 5 shots application and 10 shots rapid in 40 seconds. COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the committee of the club was held on Wednesday night, and presided over by the president, Mr F. C. Hubbard. A letter was received from the Defence Department in reply to a letter from the club, granting the club’s i’equest for. a grant, of £2O for the pur-' pose of purchasing material for the building of a shed on the range. The chairman pointed out that this was most satisfactory and that the long felt want of facilities for storing the club’s gear on the range would now be shortly fulfilled. The erection of the shed was left in the hands of a sub-committee, consisting of President Hubbard, DeputyPresident Wells and Rfm, R. I. Roberts, with power to act and spend up to £5 of the club’s funds in the building of it. Accounts. Accounts totalling £8 7s were passed for payment. Trophies. The trophy donated by the president was allotted to the winner of the club championship for the season, and Rfm. R. I. Roberts’ trophy to the best aggregate at the two 800yds and 900yds range matches in the first and second round. As the 900yds range was still not available it was uncertain when these last two shoots would take place. Service Shooting. It was decided to charge only 6d per packet for ammunition used for service shooting matches.
