SCHOOL CHILD KILLED

KNOCKED DOWN BY BICYCLE. ACCIDENT AT KARANGAHAKE. While going home from school yesterday afternoon a little girl, six years of age, named Mary Elizabeth Bramble, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Bramble, living at Crown Hill, Karangahake, received injuries which resulted in her death. From what can be gathered she was walking along the path with several other girls when she was knocked down by a bicycle that was being ridden by a boy of 13 years named Len Nelson. When the boy was interviewed he said that the girl was on the riverbank side of the path, and just as he was passing she ran across suddenly and came right into the bicycle, and he was thrown on to the ground. When he arose the girl was sitting on the footpath. She was bleeding on the side of her head, and he wiped the blood off. They all then walked as far as the post office, some of the girls taking charge of the injured girl and helping her home. The father arrived home at six o’clock and telephoned for Dr. Cole, who came quickly from Waihi. After examination the doctor ordered the girl to the Waihi Hospital, where she died about five minutes after being admitted. An inquest is to be held at Waihi this afternoon.
