It was decided to grant the application upon the cancellation of the Big Tree pump by Brenan and Co. Public Baths. It was decided to advise Mr Whiteside that the council would clean out the drain in the autumn. Water for Maoris. Rihitoto Mataia, Paeroa, wrote stating that she came within the scope of the agreement between the Crown and the council relative to the supply of water to Maoris, and therefore claimed exemption from all water rates in respect to Mura-ote-ahi block. The No. 2 District Highways Council advised that -it had adopted a grouping of .local bodies, subject to their approval, for the purpose of traffic inspection, and had applied to the Main Highways Board for a subsidy of two-thirds of the cost. The Main Highways Board was to be the controlling authority. The suggested grouping was Coromandel, Thames, and Ohinemuri counties, including the boroughs of Paeroa, Waihi, and Thames. Local requirements could be met by combining traffic with some other inspections by a man paid entirely by the local authority. His Worship stated that at the time the conference was held in Paeroa the
borough had not an inspector. One had been appointed since, and the position was entirely different. The local man could do all that was required. Cr. Silcock did not see why they should join in. Replying to a question the Mayor said that he did not think the traffic inspector appointed by the Highways Board could possibly be available for special duty.
